Try This Strategy!

Simultaneous Round Table

In Simultaneous Round Table, students respond to a prompt in writing and pass their paper to a peer for review. They then respond to another peer’s response and add to it, repeating this process until they have read and responded to all the members of their group. This activity could be used on its own or in preparation for a group discussion. Learn more and see the strategy in action on Ellevation.

Newsinlevels

Looking for quick listening practice for students? Try newsinlevels!  This website has current event soundbites at 3 different levels. Each level also has a list of vocabulary words that you could teach before listening to the clip with students as well as a discussion question aligned to the level. Here are just a few ways you could use it for practice in multiple domains:

  • Listen and identify the main ideas
  • Paraphrase
  • Put pictures in order based on what you hear
  • Compare/contrast two soundbites
  • Use context clues to determine the meaning of a word

Curriculum Corner: School-to-Home Connections

Each unit in the Vista curriculum has a school-to-home connection letter to send home at the end of the unit. The letters explain what was taught in the unit and have an activity for students and families to complete together. The letters are available in 9 languages! Find them in the Teacher Resources section online under “Unit Teacher Resources.”
