Science RISE Assessment Cluster Writing

The Secondary Science Assessment Specialist from the Utah State Board of Education is announcing the first cluster writing workshop for 2023. They are going to write 24 clusters to help fill gaps in our middle school cluster bank.

• Purpose and Process: Participants will write science phenomena and clusters for use on future RISE assessments.
• Educators: 24 total participants
• 12 participants for grade 6
• 6 participants for grade 7
• 6 participants for grade 8
• Dates: January 31-February 1, 2023 (2 days)
• Times: The sessions begin at 8:00 AM and end around 4:00 PM. Breakfast will be served starting at 8:00 AM each morning. Attendance for the entire meeting.
• Venue: Hilton Salt Lake City Center, 255 S W Temple St., Salt Lake City, UT 84101
• Hotel: Hotel accommodations are available for participants traveling more than 50 miles one way (100 miles round trip). Check in is January 30 and checkout is February 1. Participants traveling long distances may request permission to stay one additional night to check out February 2. Hotel check in is at 3:00 PM and check out is at 11:00 AM.
• Parking: Participants should park in the on-site parking garage. Hotel guests can use their room keys to exit/enter as needed. Participants traveling to the hotel daily will receive tickets to exit the parking garage without a fee.
• Meals: Breakfast and lunch are provided. Participants staying at the hotel will also receive dinner per diem of $20 for each night of hotel stay.
• Mileage: Mileage reimbursement is offered at a rate of $0.38/mile for all participants traveling to the meeting regardless of distance.
• Substitute reimbursement or stipend: Substitute reimbursement is offered to schools for teachers who participate in the meeting on school time. Educators whose school is not in session or who use a personal day for the meeting may receive a stipend of $150/day.
