USBE Writing Professional Learning Opportunity

Elevate your students’ writing abilities! The Utah State Board of Education (USBE), in partnership with Keys to Literacy, presents a dynamic professional learning opportunity designed to equip elementary literacy coaches and teachers with practical strategies for implementing the “Writing Rope” framework. Translate research into action and empower young writers to reach their full potential.

Keys to Early Writing (K-2)

This practical course provides the background knowledge needed to teach the components of beginning writing instruction. The instructional suggestions are developmentally appropriate for young children in kindergarten through grade 2, and easily transfer to classroom lessons that can be integrated with any writing curriculum or published writing program.

Content Writing (3-6)

This course dives into research-based best practices for writing instruction that can be integrated in any subject and aligned to state literacy standards. Participants learn practical strategies for teaching writing skills, how to use writing to support content learning, and how to provide scaffolds to students who need support.

Requirements

• Attend 2 full day in person trainings (8:30 am -3:30 pm)
• Virtually attend 2 of the 3 Virtual Implementation Support Sessions
• Implementation/reflection

The USBE is covering the cost of both the professional learning and the required book.
