teen literacy month logo

Governor Spencer J. Cox has signed a declaration that March is Utah Teen Literacy Month. In conjunction with this and in cooperation with several organizations, Operation Literacy is hosting a free writing contest in March for teens in grades 7-12. Teachers can encourage students to enter a piece of writing they have created this school year. The contest will include a one-page (300 words max) writing sample in one of 5 categories: poetry, persuasive, narrative, exposition, and graphic novel. Entries will be judged by Operation Literacy with support from local university partnerships. The entry deadline is March 31st and one winner from each category will be announced on Monday, April 20, 2024. Each winner will receive a mega book bundle plus lunch with Jennifer A. Nielsen, the Utah Ambassador for Young People’s Literature.
