Would you like to improve your STEM skills? The Natural History Musuem of Utah offers a variety of PD to engage in sciene and engineering pracices from the perspective of your students. These workshops are free to public school teachers.

Here are some of the workshops available:

Utah Geology for Utah Kids: Science that Rocks

4th Grade Geology for Kids, Science that Rocks! Workshop is scheduled for September 11 at 4:30 pm. Teachers will participate in hands-on labs and demos that enrich 4th grade science curriculum as well as help prepare students for the SAGE test. They will participate in and learn 20 exciting experiments and demos that support the Utah state core, learn how to set up and manage a classroom lab that reinforces the scientific method and lab safety. Each teacher will receive: 30 student lab books, a classroom kit, and a teacher’s guide. Please sign up by sending an email to saram@provo.edu.

CTE STEM Concepts Workshop

  • July 9-10 from 8:00AM-4:00PM
  • Springside Elementary, Saratoga Springs, UT
  • $150 + processing fee (lunch will be provided)

This workshop is for those LEAs that want to incorporate the concepts taught in the STEM Concepts workshop into their middle school courses. Teachers who have previously participated in Dr. Steve Shumway’s workshop focusing on the incorporation of elementary STEM concepts should not apply as the concepts learned will be similar.

Keyboarding Methods Workshop

  • July 11-12 from 8:00AM-4:00PM
  • Granite Technical Institute, Salt Lake City, UT
  • $60 + processing fee (lunch will be provided)
  • 8 seats available

This workshop is for teachers who want to use the technique of how to teach keyboarding properly across all content areas. This is also one of the requirements of teachers who are earning their Elementary or Secondary Keyboarding endorsement.

College and Career Awareness New Teacher Training

  • July 26-27 from 8:00AM-4:30PM
  • Granite Technical Institute, Salt Lake City, UT
  • $25 + processing fee (lunch will be provided)

K-8 Everyone Can Code

Coding is an essential skill that teaches problem-solving, develops teamwork, and inspires creativity. Join us for a two-day professional learning workshop from Apple to learn how you can introduce your students to coding with iPad and free Everyone Can Code curriculum. If you’re interested in teaching with this curriculum, the workshop will be a great way to get started. You’ll get hands-on experience with the Everyone Can Code teacher guides and with iPad coding apps for students in grades K–8.
