Try This Strategy!

Signal Word Flash Cards

When students learn signal words, they are better able to see connections and text structures in their reading. They can also use signal words to strengthen their writing. To teach signal words, choose relevant signal words for a text (you may choose sequence words or words that show comparison), then help students create flash cards and then use the words in their own writing. Check out examples and ideas on Ellevation.

District Credit for Ellevation

Did you know that you can receive district credit for learning and implementing strategies from Ellevation? To receive credit, you will choose one pathway (which includes four modules) to complete, video two lessons, complete a learning walk, and work with the instructional coach at your school to implement what you learn. Pathways include Supporting Newcomers, Academic Language, and Fostering Interactions. Read more informaition about Pathways.

Curriculum Corner: Learning Objectives

Each unit in Vista has a list of objectives that students should be able to meet by the end of the unit. These are great tools for your planning and assessment! To find the objectives, go to Resources from your dashboard. In Get Ready!, they are called Language Objectives and are found under Literacy Resources. In Bridges, they are called Learning Objectives and are found under that same name.
