USBE offers a monthly webinar series for secondary ELA teachers to learn best practices for implementing the new ELA standards. December’s webinar is called “Indigenous America through Literature Learning” and will be presented by Dr. Donna Sabis-Burns. The webinar will be on December 5 from 4-5 PM; those who cannot attend live will receive a webinar recording.
Here is what teachers can expect to learn in the webinar:
Indigenous representation in literature is not a new concept; however, do the books in today’s classrooms accurately reflect the Native people in a contemporary setting? Using up-to-date articles and resources, we will look at how to select and share high-quality literature for children and young adults and discuss why Indigenous cultural authenticity matters in books in schools.
