Whether you attend virtually or in person, pre-register for this free professional development here. If you attend in person, you can also register at the doors. All participants will leave with two full-lesson plans. The 2023 teaching posters have arrived! Come pick up a set of free posters at Evening for Educators or anytime during museum hours.
While quilts often evoke a sense of comfort, warmth, and safety, we rarely consider the forceful processes required to create them. Like the actions that form and re-form our planet, quilts are created through brutal means—in the case of a quilt, material is cut or torn, pinned, pierced by needle and thread, worked, and reworked by the artist until an aesthetic object is formed. Primal Forces: Earth explores both the inherent and human-mediated forces that impact the earth on which we live, all through the medium of textiles. Come learn how art quilts can be used in cross-curricular lessons adaptable for different grades!
