Honor cultural diversity and bring history to life through dramatic storytelling or immersive rhythms and movements of African American music and dance. Here are a few lesson plan ideas from the BYU ARTS Partnership and Kennedy Center websites:
- 5th grade Social Studies/Visual Arts Lesson – Emancipation Proclamation
- 2nd grade Social Studies/ Dance/Music – Book “From the Heart of Africa,” and traditional African song and dance
- 4th-6th Grades Social Studies/Music – History of the Railroads, John Henry
- 3rd-5th Grades Social Studies/Dance/Drama – Harriet Tubman, Retelling history
