The Instructional Coaches Academy: Science is a professional learning series for instructional coaches, elementary PLC Teams, team leads, administrators, or others who support science education in any grade K-12. Applicants may form a team of two to six members to apply or apply as a single person and be assigned to a collaborative team. Each session, participants experience and explore different research-based tenets of effective science instruction. Then, participants apply the principles learned in their own context during the month. All sessions support understanding and implementation of effective science instruction. Of note: this course CANNOT fulfill the three-dimensional science and engineering pedagogical knowledge requirement of the secondary science core endorsement.

Outcomes of the Academy:

  1. Develop understanding and implementation of three-dimensional teaching and instruction.
  2. Build capacity to support science educators in shifting toward more effective science instruction.
  3. Debrief, reflect, and network with others to increase the effectiveness of science instruction.

USBE Credit Available: 2.0 USBE Credit

Funding for substitutes for this PL opportunity is not available. If a substitute is required for participation, participants are encouraged to ask their LEA/District/school leaders for support.
