The Elementary District Literacy Committee met on Monday, September 12, 2022. This year the Elementary District Literacy Committee is focused on supporting teachers with the implementation of our newly adopted literacy program, Wonders. The Elementary DLC members will be asking teachers from their school which Wonders topics they would like to learn more about.
The DLC also discussed updates with LETRS trainings, district assessments and materials. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the information discussed, you can contact your school’s DLC member.
We have received a lot of positive feedback about the new Wonders program and are excited to continue our learning on how these instructional materials can help our students learn and grow.
The Secondary Literacy Committee met on Monday, September 12, 2022, to begin the 3-year process of curriculum review. This first week, we reviewed the district policy 4000–Curriculum Development and Adoption of Instructional Materials. We read an article about the benefits of high-quality instructional materials which ensure “that every student is receiving access to grade-level content, that units build upon concepts, and that learning is coherent and cohesive year-to-year.” Selecting quality materials also will maximize teacher time to differentiate and individualize instruction and is equitable.
The DWLC is now entering phase II of the Curriculum Review Cycle, which means that the committee is now becoming an Instructional Materials committee. Here are the notes from the meeting:
