Scholarship Opportunity for up to 25 teachers from around the U.S.: “Discovering Native Histories along the Lewis and Clark Trail.”

It will involve an immersive journey from Billings (MT) to Bismarck (ND) with short seminars at each end and visiting reservations, Pictograph Caves, Deer Medicine Rocks, Little Bighorn Battlefield, and other national and state parks.

Teachers will collaborate to create new lessons that bring greater balance to the shared history of the coming of Euro-Americans into the Plains and the impact on American Indian communities (from indigenous perspectives). We welcome language arts teachers, social studies teachers, art teachers, science teachers, and more.

The institute will primarily be taught by Native elders and educators. Participants will receive $2700 to put toward their expenses. The dates of the institute are June 30-July 21, 2019. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2019.
