Dear Teachers,

We invite you and your students to a matinee performance of “America” on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., in the Loveland Performing Arts Center of The Heritage Schools in the Provo River Bottoms (5600 N. Heritage School Drive, Provo, UT, 84604).

“America” will be presented by The BYU Young DanceMakers, the performing company of the BYU Children’s and Teen’s Creative Dance program. 75 youthful performers ages 6-18 directed by Kathleen B. Sheffield with Malisalee Gardner as assistant director will delight audiences as they incorporate their own ideas and movements in original imaginative dances that explore the ideas that make America great. The ways we are connected as a nation will be reflected in these imaginative and original dances. An inspiring opportunity awaits, as life close to home is brought to life by these talented young dancers in “America”.

The matinee performance is held expressly for elementary students. Because the dance component for the state curriculum guide recommends experiencing dance as observers as well as participants, attendance at this concert provides an opportunity to heighten your students’ awareness of dance in an enjoyable way while fulfilling this objective. The dancers will be participating in choreography that will encourage children to access their imaginations and tell a meaningful story.

Admission to the matinee performance is $2.00 per student. (Adults accompanying the students will not be charged admission but must be included in the reservation.) See the enclosed registration form. Please call Laurel Hornberger at 801-422-4854 to secure your seats, and then send in the registration form with payment.

Evening performances will be held Friday, May 6th and Saturday May 7th at 7:30 p.m. at the rate of $14.00 per person. Tickets to the evening performances may be purchased by going to the Website: dancecamps.byu.edu and clicking Children’s and Teens Creative Dance.

Please email laurel.hornberger@byu.edu with any questions.

Please join us for “America” as we continue to encourage children to access their imaginations, while nurturing their innate movement abilities and sound technical training.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Sheffield Artistic Director

Malisalee Gardner Assistant Director
