The Allison family, a local Native American family, delighted Amelia Earhart Elementary students with an educational and engaging assembly, sharing about Native American cultural traditions through dance, music, and storytelling. Students were cheering the Hoop dancer on with support and awe. One teacher remarked that it was her favorite assembly in the past six years. Students learned about the traditions of the Basket and Jingle Dances, the story and music of the wooden flute, songs sung to the young while in the papoose, the meaning of the Hoop Dance and some students even danced the Navajo Round Dance on stage with the performers. Thank you to Amelia Earhart’s PTA and a Grant from BYU Arts Partnership for funding this cultural presentation for Amelia Earhart Elementary. The Allison family would love an opportunity to share this cultural presentation at your school.
