Decoding Dyslexia Utah is pleased to announce it will be providing scholarships for Orton-Gillingham Training in June 2022. There are also openings for non-scholarship individuals to complete the training.
The Orton-Gillingham Associate Level Course is designed to prepare trainees to individualize instruction to meet the specific needs of each learner. The curriculum in the training adheres to the guidelines of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, emphasizing the principles of the approach: language-based, multisensory, structured, sequential, cumulative, cognitive, flexible, diagnostic/prescriptive, and success-oriented.
This two-week comprehensive course is designed to satisfy the Associate level curriculum for the Orton-Gillingham Academy. It also meets the foundational knowledge requirements for the K-12 Literacy Endorsement through USBE.
This training is presented by Joan Gerken, Fellow/AOGPE. This seminar follows the Associate curriculum guidelines established by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators which includes classroom instruction, selected readings, and supervised teaching. Following this coursework, those interested in pursuing the Classroom Educator or Associate credentials with the Orton-Gillingham Academy must complete 50 to 100 hours respectively of supervised teaching. This practicum may be arranged individually with the instructing Fellow.
